Adam Rooney's second-half header handed Salford a narrow 1-0 Sky Bet League Two victory against Cambridge.
Rooney glanced home from Craig Conway's cross with 13 minutes to go, ensuring Salford completed back-to-back EFL wins for the first time.
Salford's Joey Jones fired in an early 30-yard effort which flew narrowly wide.
Home debutant Conway then lashed the ball in from the edge of the box, forcing U's goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov into a smart save.
The visitors' first clear chance saw Marc Richards heading inches wide.
Midfielder George Maris was then unlucky as his spectacular volley on the turn only just cleared the Salford crossbar.
Cambridge upped the tempo in the second half and - after Maris saw a header saved - Salford goalkeeper Kyle Letheren then brilliantly kept out Luke Hannant's thumping strike from 15 yards.
Letheren had to be alert to gather Richards' glancing header.
With 15 minutes left, Hannant curled a super left-footed strike just past the upright.
After Rooney's impressive finish, he then missed a great chance to make it 2-0 when he fluffed a one-on-one opportunity when up against Mitov.
