Sheff Utd 1 Bristol City 2. Big win on the opening weekend for City. They grind out the points and are up and running. United played well, but must wait for their first points.
Time running out and United don't have the ball. Wilbraham with good strength. He finds Smith, who darts into the box. His cut back is aimed towards Emmanuel-Thomas, who slips.
McNulty down the right and able to feed a cross to the near post. United have no runners in that area and Fielding can drop onto the ball. City playing the clock now.
Emmanuel-Thomas involved immediately. He helps to bundle the ball into the path of Smith. Rush of blood from 25 yards out as he sees a wayward drive sail away into the crowd.
Baldock withdrawn to make way for Emmanuel-Thomas. Not a bad option for City to have on the bench - another 20-goal striker. Strength in depth could be key.
Campbell-Ryce with a wayward cross from the right which sails away on the far side. Opportunity for City to make their final change.
Murphy's dipping cross from the left is pounced upon by Fielding. City dropping very deep. Another cross from Davies is met by Flint. He's been a rock for City today.
Elliott being withdrawn by City. Wagstaff sent on in his place. First job, defend a throw. He does that, forcing another. McNulty then turns the ball into the box, but Higdon is facing away from goal when he gathers.
McNulty loses the ball, then finds it. Cross from the right is scuffed badly. United still in possession. Davies wins a throw. Campbell-Ryce cuts onto his left foot, but another poor cross is nodded out by the first man.
Fielding drills long. Can't find a team-mate. United can come again. Harris bombing down the left, but forced too close to the by-line and his cut back is easily cleared.
Davies' corner flicked through the box by Basham. Ball flicks off McNulty in front of goal and ends up rolling wide. United turn to their bench again, bringing on Baxter in place of Basham.
Rushed effort from Baldock. He had more time than he realises and ends up slicing a wild shot high into the stands. United in a hurry to get the ball back. Campbell-Ryce wins a corner down the right.
Reed over halfway, but forced sideways. Cross hung into the box from deep drops Higdon's way. Flint rises in front of him and the United striker can't make telling contact. Header rolls well wide.#
Davies down towards the corner flag. Cunningham sticks with him, but has a tug of his shirt. Free-kick in a promising position - wide on United's right. Davies takes himself. Delivery glanced out by Flint.
Wilbraham working hard up top, but catches Harris this time and concedes a free-kick. City chasing everything in midfield, giving United no time in possession.
Off the line. Campbell-Ryce with a low shot which ricochets into Murphy. He shoots on the turn and Fielding gets enough on the ball to prevent it from beating him and those behind him on the line. Ball flicks up onto the post and City react quickest to clear.
Cunningham all alone as he runs at the heart of the United defence. He looks to flick the ball onto his right boot, but gets it caught under his feet and the door is slammed in his face.
Keep-ball from City. Up to United to go and get it back. Pack into the feet of Wilbraham. He reverses a pass into Baldock. No way through on this occasion. Neat interplay though.
Davies into the box and going down. Elliott poked out a toe, but pulled it back at the last minute. Blatant dive from Davies and he is rightly cautioned.
The lively Freeman makes way for Pack as City make their first switch. Cotterill looking to tighten things up in the middle of the park with a holding midfielder.
Alcock up above Wilbraham to concede a throw. Williams in no hurry to take. He goes backwards. Flint clips into Wilbraham. Knock down to Freeman, who wriggles into space and fires inches wide from the edge of the box. Great feet to make a yard.
Freeman into Wilbraham, who holds off his man yet again. Little bursting up in support. He wants too long on the ball, though, and is nudged off it. Movement on the City bench.
United need to come again now. Their response to City's opener was emphatic. Clough needs more of the same. Visitors need to make sure they don't drop too deep. They hammer long here, with Howard forced right to the edge of his box to gather.
GOAL BRISTOL CITY - ELLIOTT. The visitors take the lead. Wilbraham with a clever flick over his shoulder into the path of Elliott. He keeps calm and drills low under Howard.
Campbell-Ryce spins and combines with Harris. His low ball fed back into the box almost runs for Murphy, but the flag goes up and he would have been offside had he gathered.
Cotterill doing plenty of pointing on the sidelines. Clough more relaxed. Expect more changes in the next few minutes. This game is still there to be won.
Reed mixing it in midfield now. No quarter being given, tackles flying in. Free-kick conceded on this occasion though. City go wide to Cunningham on the left. No space for him there.
Campbell-Ryce shifts the ball and crosses from the right. Not the best and Flint can clear with ease. He is then on hand again to nod out from the middle of the box.
Wilbraham back with us. Will take more than that to rule him out of this game. Back underway and Smith is outnumbered down the City left.
Wilbraham has gone down holding his head. He was caught on the back of the head by Alcock while challenging for a high ball. United defender ended up nodding his opponent instead of the ball.
Scougall working hard again to keep City going sideways and backwards. He then wins a free-kick off Smith in the middle of the park. Industrious display from the Blades forward. Reed found in plenty of space 35 yards out, but never catches an ambitious shot.
United making their first change. Campbell-Ryce sent on in place of Flynn. Pace down the flanks and a man capable of producing something from nothing.
Elliott with a clever back-heel into Little, but his route to goal his blocked from 15 yards out. Ball worked around to Baldock, who spins 20 yards out. He looks to bend one into the bottom corner, but the ball breaks off Alcock and onto his boot and behind.
Davies down the right and wrapping his boot around a low cross. Fielding spots the danger early and steps off his line to gather on the dive. End-to-end stuff as Alcock has to clear around Baldock.
Quick throw into the feet of Flynn, who is closed quickly. Move is kept alive, but Davies' cross from the right is too close to Fielding. Solid again from Alcock at the other end as he nods back from in front of Wilbraham.
Baldock spins McGahey, and is caught. Free-kick wide on the right for City, who send the big men forward from the back. Freeman's delivery is plucked out of the air by Howard.
Harris runs United forward, but straight into Little. Counter is on for a moment, but red and white shirts flood back into position. Solid defending from Alcock as he nods back to Howard. Long ball the other way is met by Fielding under pressure from Scougall.
The lively Baldock causing problems again. He drifts left this time. He has Freeman in support inside the box. He takes a touch to set himself, then drills left-footed into the body of Howard. Comfortable stop.
Freeman clips the ball over. Not the best, dips very low. City can't make anything of it. Long ball then dealt with by Davies. United have no-one across halfway so the ball ends up back with Fielding.
Little with space on the right, but gives low into the feet of Elliott. City work around to the left, where Wilbraham earns a free-kick backing into his man. Clever front play. Free-kick 25 yards out, left of centre. Decent opportunity.
Smith wasn't the man to be cautioned for sticking out a leg on Murphy. It was, in fact, the United man who went into the book for simulation.
City steal the ball in midfield. Smith leads the charge and has Baldock pulling away to the right. A clever pass allows him to shoot without breaking stride from a tight angle. He fires across Howard, who parries to safety.
Wilbraham claiming he was shoved in the back. Gets nothing. United play their way out once more. City sat very deep, inviting the hosts forward.
Scougall snapping around on halfway trying to keep City on the back foot. He can't as Baldock escapes to the by-line. He cuts back towards the penalty spot for Wilbraham. Air shot which hits both of his legs.
United playing with confidence, as Murphy spins out from the back. He is then caught by Smith on halfway. Yellow card out again. Leg left hanging and Murphy went over it.
Higdon trips Smith as City play out from the back. Free-kick taken quickly, but fired out of play. Wasted. United slow things down by playing along their defensive line.
Freeman running City out. Baldock breaking in behind, but can't be found. City come again, with Little on the right. He miscues his cross and slices behind. Final ball lacking again.
Little making headway down the right. He cuts inside level with the edge of the box. He over-runs the ball and ends up diving in on Basham. He catches the United midfielder on the ankle and is shown the first yellow card of the afternoon.
Wilbraham comes to meet a throw, but sees the ball sent beyond him. Caught on his heels and can't prevent a goal kick. Higdon beaten in the air by Flint at the other end. Basham then crunches into a tackle to keep City pegged back.
Sunshine has returned. Glorious afternoon for opening weekend football in the Football League. These two have put on a show so far and shown why they are expected to be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign.
Sheffield United get us underway again. They have plenty of match-winners on the bench should they need them. Bristol City ready after undergoing a few pre-half warm-ups on the touchline.
Chris Green says: 'Both sets of players have delivered a thriller of a match thus far, which highlights why many supporters around the globe miss football when it isn't taking place.'
Remember you can also bet in-play at Skybet.com. United now 11/8 to take the spoils, with City 7/2 and the draw 5/4. You can get 7/1 on the game ending 2-2.

Sheff Utd 1 Bristol City 1. All square at the interval. Entertaining encounter and still all to play for.
Freeman tugged to the ground by Freeman. He must be walking a fine line as he has conceded a number of cheap free-kicks. United into the box with Basham. He goes out to Davies, who sees a low cross cleared by a diving header.
Davies' delivery is glanced out at the front post. City try to run the ball out, but it runs away from Freeman. Davies has to trot all the way over from the other side to take the throw. He immediately wins another. Reed with a nice touch through the middle. Murphy seen off by Little on the left.
Higdon able to bring the ball down on the edge of the box. A lot of bodies around him and while he can find the feet of the supporting Scougall, he is outmuscled when bursting into the area. United keep pressing and force another corner.
Fielding yelling at his defenders to push out as he prepares a clearance. City unable to piece anything together at the moment inside the opposition half.
Corner fed over, but comes to nothing. Glanced well wide from within a group of bodies around the penalty spot. United look to push out again.
Harris back on the ball. Not the best of passes. May still be a little groggy. City sat very deep and playing backwards. Flint then drills long. Ball touched into the path of Freeman as he breaks into the box. He goes down under pressure from Alcock and Basham. Corner given.
Collins back on the bench. On the field, Baldock gathers into the box. Elliott's cross from the right is sliced badly by Alcock, but is then touched out for a United throw.
Collins has been stripped and is ready to come on. Good to see Harris back on his feet. Looks like he will be allowed to continue. Tissue stuck up his nose, but okay to play on.
Oxygen being administered. Not looking too good for Harris. He is moving, but may be one of those for the doctors to make a call on. The FA have asked for head injuries to be taken more seriously, and Harris might not be allowed to continue.
Little leaned towards Harris and caught him just above the eye with the point of his elbow. No intent, he was looking to shield the ball. Harris not helped as he looked to slide in just as Little looked to hold him off. Physio still on the field.
Play stopped as Harris has gone down holding his face. He was caught by the elbow of Little. Play continued for a while, with City threatening. They aren't happy that the whistle went. Harris still down.
Ayling clips into Wilbraham, but he can't control inside the box and McGahey is able to launch down field. He then has a wild slice at another long ball. Throw to City.
Davies driving forward. He is capable from distance and tries his luck from 30 yards out. Not his best as the ball bends away from the target and harmlessly wide. Fielding takes his time with the goal kick.
Little unable to combine with Ayling. Ball back to Elliott, who gives it away. McGahey surges out from the back. Harris down the left plays a one-two with Scougall and gets to the by-line. Great movement, poor cross that is fired through the box and away on the far side.
Wilbraham into Freeman. He has no support ahead of him and shoots first time from a long way out. No power on the shot and Howard can drop his left and save comfortably.
Little posing a threat down City's right again. This time he gets his final decision all wrong and ends up skewing a poor shot into the side-netting from an impossible angle. Up the other end, Scougall touches into the path of Basham. A dipping volley from 20 yards out flashes narrowly wide of the target with Fielding rooted to the spot.
Harris with another teasing cross. Only touched out to the right. Flynn dinks into the middle, where Scougall arrives. Free header, but he loops the ball over the top. Should have at least hit the target from eight yards out.
Deserved leveller as United have bossed proceedings since falling behind. Hosts now going looking for more. They have the wind in their sails.
GOAL SHEFF UTD - HIGDON. New boy and new captain up and running. Davies whips the ball over from the right. City defence all holding hands in the middle! Doesn't help as Higdon gets up above Ayling and glances a header into the bottom corner.
Scougall wins a corner. Davies takes. Flint commanding again as he glances clear. United try again from the other side. Davies bundled over and earns a free-kick off Freeman.
United asking all of the questions at the moment. City just lumping clear and trying to catch their breath. Freeman concedes a throw on the United left. Cotterill off his seat barking out instructions.
Patient build-up from United. They look for Higdon again, but nods behind Scougall. Move kept alove and Scougall is involved again as he fails to make telling contact with a low cross. Murphy arrives at the back post and again Flint is in the right place for City to clear from in front of his own goal.
Davies fires the corner to the near post. Higdon looking to get across his man, but gets too much on the ball and sends it well wide of the goal. Was looking to touch on for those behind. Fielding's goal kick drifts out of play on halfway.
Basham bundled over by Freeman. Free-kick from deep, which is played square. Harris into the box. looking for Basham. Ball fed back out to Davies. Much better delivery and Fielding has to tip a Higdon header over the top.
City struggling to get out. United pegging them back. Harris floats over a cross. Fielding comes, but flaps. Loose ball drops to Scougall, who sees a shot blocked in front of the line by Flint. Great defending, not great goalkeeping.
Reed wide to Murphy on the left. He drifts infield and has Scougall offering support. A pass slid into the box lacks pace and City can hack into the stands. Long throw touched into the air, and then cleared.
City looking for the head of Wilbraham on a regular basis. He touches a long ball down for Freeman. His scuffed shot from the edge of the box hits a United defender. Hand ball shouts fall on deaf ears.
McGahey crashes through the back of Wilbraham and concedes a free-kick close to halfway. City go backwards - all the way back to Fielding. Flint them drills long down field.
United now have to respond. They are the home team and should be looking to dictate. They have had their moment, but need to up the tempo. Harris with a misplaced pass looking for the feet of Higdon.
City have bossed possession and now have their reward. Wilbraham delighted to be back playing and back among the goals. Could be a lethal partnership with Baldock.
GOAL BRISTOL CITY - WILBRAHAM. Little with a driving run down the right. He gets to the by-line and hangs a cross to the back post. Wilbraham arrives on cue and a powerful header is clawed into the net by Howard.
Wilbraham able to turn and face the target 25 yards out. He works the ball onto his left foot and test Howard from distance. Comfortable save in the end as the United keeper drops onto the ball.
Scougall battling down the left for United. Full of running and happy to concede a throw on halfway and offer the hosts time to regroup.
Elliott curls over the free-kick. Flint up highest in the middle, but fails to make contact six yards out. Rare sight of goal for City and the opportunity goes begging.
Alcock taking no chances as he concedes a throw inside his own half. City go back, before lumping long. Cunningham flicks down the left, but settles for another throw. Wilbraham and Baldock then combine, and Flynn ends up conceding a free-kick wide on the left. Opportunity for City to push men forward.
Flynn has Davies in support, but comes inside. Scougall goes left to Harris. He hangs a cross into the middle. Higdon interested, but can't get a touch. Ball ends up at the feet of Harris 20 yards out. He flashes a well-struck drive from the corner of the box inches wide.
Space for Higdon, who can look right for Davies. A dipping cross lands around the penalty spot, but is hammered clear. Quality of crosses has been lacking so far. Elliott fires long for City, but the ball skips away from Baldock down the right channel.
Higdon involved again as he tees up Flynn 20 yards out. A low drive is fired straight at Fielding. His hurried clearance is pounced upon again by a red and white shirt. Floated cross is, however, plucked out of the air. City keeper wobbling slighty.
City playing out from the back again. United looking to press. The tactic works as Fielding crashes a clearance into Higdon. He is fortunate to see the ball flick out and out for a throw.
Corner is glanced away to safety by Wilbraham. Davies tries to work something by the corner flag, but the ball runs away from him and Freeman can usher it behind.
Great cross-field pass out to Murphy on the left. A give and go with Harris creates space for a cross which is fed into the six-yard box and nodded behind for a corner.
United remain on the front foot, but Murphy has hit pocket picked. Hosts forced back to Howard, who has to be quick to clear with Baldock closing in fast.
Flynn well forward again down the right. He is forced a little wide just inside the box, and rather scuffs his attempted centre. City able to clear their lines.
Reed with room to move into through the middle. Murphy calling for a pass on the right, but he is ignored. United end up having to clip long, onto the head of Williams.
United win a throw on their right. Davies takes. Not a lot of movement. He finds Higdon with his back to goal. He has to look right again, and the flag goes up for a free-kick to the visitors.
Baldock a willing runner down the right. He shrugs off his marker and wins a corner off the legs of Alcock. Set-piece sent deep again. Turned back into the middle, but United have bodies in the way. Elliott with a quick throw to Freeman, who sees another low cross hacked clear.
Harris down the left for United, looking for Scougall. City have numbers back. Head tennis in the middle of the park, before Cunningham can lead the visitors out and slow things down.
Freeman over the set-piece. His delivery is floated to the back post for Flint. He nods into the box, where Ayling goes down under pressure. Nothing given and Little ends up firing a 20-yard volley over the top.
All smiles on the bench at the moment. Clough and Cotterill in relaxed mood. On the field, Elliott gathers on the right and starts an attack for City. Little then sent down the flank, where he is tripped by Harris. Opportunity to load the box.
First touch for Fielding. He drills wide to Little, but he can't control on his head. Ball back ti Fielding. United nick it and Flynn can get down the right flank. His low cross is blocked out for a throw.
Bristol City first to get a foot on the ball. Expect the game to start at 100mph as both teams look to burst out of the blocks. Visitors happy to play along their back line.
The players are in the tunnel so we will have to leave the feedback there for now. There will be further opportunities to have your say at half-time and at the final whistle. Games faces on!
David Stanbridge says: 'Think it may be quite congested with both teams playing 5 in midfield. 1-0 Blades, with a counter-attack goal!'
P Mc says: 'Think 3/1 Bristol City is overpriced, best striker in the division in Baldock paired with Wilbraham could be lethal 2-1 away win.'
Robert Kenny is first in with a pre-match thought. He says: 'UTB in Clough we trust 2-1 win today Porter pinching the winning goal.'

Both Nigel Clough and Steve Cotterill have been busy reshaping their squads over the summer, so they will be looking for new recruits to settle quickly and for a flying start to be made.
Both sides will admit that they underachieved in 2013/14, but will be looking to put things right this time around as they start among the promotion favourites.
