Sheff Utd v Norwich preview

Image: Beattie: Major doubt

Striker James Beattie is a major doubt for the Blades, but Gary Doherty is back for the Canaries.

Experienced striker may miss Norwich clash with groin strain

Sheffield United striker James Beattie is a major doubt for the Blades' home clash with Norwich on Saturday afternoon. The Blades striker is only 50/50 after a groin strain meant he was replaced early in the second half of the midweek win over Coventry. If he fails to make it, Jon Stead, Billy Sharp, Luton Shelton and Rob Hulse - who replaced Beattie against Coventry - will all be vying for a starting place. Midfielder Stephen Quinn has now served a three-match ban, but winger Lee Martin, on loan from Manchester United, remains sidelined with knee cartilage trouble. Defender Chris Armstrong (groin), midfielder Nick Montgomery (broken metatarsal) and striker Danny Webber (knee) remain long-term absentees. The Blades, who have taken seven points from their last three league matches, are chasing a third straight win under new manager Kevin Blackwell.

Norwich news

Norwich manager Glenn Roeder has centre-half Gary Doherty back as he seeks a win to arrest the Canaries' recent slump in form which has seen his side take just one point from the last 12 to slip to 18th place. Doherty missed the 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke in midweek through suspension after his red card at Coventry but should come straight back into the side replacing either Jason Shackell or Alex Pearce. Midfielder Darel Russell serves the second of a two-match ban after he too was sent off at the Ricoh Arena so captain Mark Fotheringham will again be partnered by Matthew Pattison at Bramall Lane. Striker Jamie Cureton came under fire from Roeder after an incredible late miss against the Potters so Ched Evans could return alongside Dion Dublin. Forward Darren Huckerby should be on the bench after his groin injury with left-back Adam Drury (knee) and Luke Chadwick (shoulder) long-term absentees.
