Wilson's early goal secures points for visitors

Sheffield Wednesday slumped to a fourth straight defeat as Brian Wilson earned Bristol City the points at Hillsborough. Wilson struck after just four minutes of the Championship encounter to leave Wednesday without a point after the opening four games. In contrast to the hosts, The Robins are enjoying a fine start to the campaign and are yet to taste defeat in their four fixtures. The game was only four minutes old when former Cheltenham midfielder Wilson found the bottom corner with a low drive from the edge of the area following a swift counter-attack. Seconds before Marcus Tudgay should have opened the scoring for the Owls after Steve Watson combined with Glenn Whelan on the edge of the box. He forced his way to the byline and cut a low ball back across the face of goal. Tudgay had time and space, but mis-hit his shot and screwed the ball wide from eight yards out. However, Tudgay was not to be deterred and remained Wednesday's main threat throughout the first half. On three occasions he came close to bringing his side level as Wednesday produced a spell of intense pressure. First Adriano Basso made a point-blank save at his post after Tudgay stretched to get onto a deep cross in the 17th minute. From the resulting corner Tudgay's athletic overhead kick was cleared off the line before he was thwarted again when Basso tipped his header over the crossbar. The visitors had a chance to double their lead six minutes before the break. Summer signing Ivan Sproule fired wide from a narrow angle after being released by Lee Trundle. City almost caught the home side on the counter-attack again in the 63rd minute when Wilson raced clear down the right wing. But with three-on-one inside the final third of the pitch, Trundle and Sproule somehow managed to contrive to waste the chance. Wednesday almost made them pay six minutes later when another shot had to be scrambled off the line by the City defence. The closest Laws' side came to an equaliser was in the 88th minute when substitute Esayas forced Basso into a save with his legs with a thunderous free-kick from 25 yards.
