Shrews beat Crawley to go third

Shrewsbury climbed to third spot in League Two after coming from behind to beat fellow promotion contenders Crawley 2-1.

Substitute Marvin Morgan grabbed the winner in the 74th minute when he was sent clear by Jermaine Grandison to fire past Crawley goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin. Crawley controlled the first half for long stages and it was no surprise when their pressure paid off with the opening goal in the 33rd minute. The impressive Billy Clarke clipped the ball forward into the box and John Akinde thumped a low shot beyond the despairing reach of Chris Neal. The Shrewsbury keeper earlier had to be alert to stop shots from just outside the area from Josh Simpson and Sanchez Watt. Shrewsbury took time to get into their rhythm but improved as the contest developed and pulled level two minutes before the break, winger Mark Wright firing home from 15 yards for his ninth goal of the season. Neal came to his side's rescue with important saves from Akinde and Watt after an hour before Morgan, who turned down the chance to sign for Crawley last season, had the final word for Shrewsbury who have now gone a calendar year without a home defeat.
