Clarke brace seals the points

Shrewsbury's excellent start to the season continued with a brace from Jordan Clark wrapping up a comfortable 2-0 win over Luton.

Unbeaten Shrewsbury, buoyed by their midweek Capital One Cup victory at Premier League Leicester, came flying out of the blocks and took the lead as early as the third minute. Connor Goldson delivered a raking 50 yard throughball which was impressively taken down by Clark before the midfielder rolled the ball past advancing keeper Mark Tyler for his first goal of the season. It was the signal for Shrewsbury to repeatedly ask questions of the Hatters. Scott Vernon and James Collins, with a clever curling effort, both forced smart saves from Tyler as the hosts looked dangerous. Luton offered little in an attacking sense although they finally forced a save from Jayson Leutwiler just before the interval when the Swiss keeper beat away a long-range drive from Matt Robinson. The second half continued in the same vein with a Collins header brilliantly saved by Tyler before Shrewsbury doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Clark's free kick from the right was fumbled into his own net by keeper Tyler. Vernon then struck the bar from close range for the dominant home side before Luton's day to forget was completed by an 82nd minute red card for Robinson for a challenge on Cameron Gayle.
