Shrewsbury could move into the automatic promotion places with victory over Port Vale on Saturday.

Valiants looking to tame Shrews

Shrewsbury could move into the automatic promotion places with victory over Port Vale on Saturday. The Shrews currently sit fifth in League Two, on goal difference, but four wins in five outings has seen them pull level with Dagenham in third. The Valiants are currently concerned with matters towards the opposite end of the table, with no wins in their last five dropping them to within four points of the relegation zone.

Shrewsbury team news

Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson will be without Joss Labadie for the weekend encounter. The on-loan midfielder, who has scored four goals in his last five games, was given his marching orders during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Morecambe having been shown a second yellow card. He was due to serve a one-match suspension against Accrington Stanley in midweek but the game was called off and his ban now applies to Saturday. The postponed game has allowed defender Dean Holden and midfielder Paul Murray to overcome niggling injuries. And there was further positive news with Craig Disley's knee injury not as bad as first feared with the midfielder hoping to return in four or five weeks, while Terry Dunfield is making good progress following his shoulder operation and Omer Riza (ankle) is back in training.
Vale team news
Port Vale manager Micky Adams is hoping to make minimal changes to his starting line-up for the trip to the Prostar Stadium. Adams' men enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Stockport in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in midweek with forwards Lewis Haldane, Louis Dodds and Marc Richards all impressing in a 3-4-3 formation. Striker Jamie Guy could also be in contention after making his debut off the bench in midweek following his three-month loan move from Colchester, while Jason Jarrett (shin) is fit. Doug Loft, who has been suffering with a calf injury, and midfielder Rob Taylor, who was laid low with a virus, missed the midweek game and will be hoping to return to contention. Geoff Horsfield is out with a groin injury, though, while Simon Richman (hip) will be assessed. Meanwhile, 20-year-old striker Steve Thompson has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
