Ten-man Torquay battled to a 1-1 draw against a Shrewsbury side still out of sorts after their shock FA Cup exit a week ago by Staines.
Kieran Charnock saw red for an over-the-top tackle on Dean Holden ten minutes after half-time, which put on-loan goalkeeper Michael Poke under constant pressure.
He saved well from Holden twice and Jamie Devitt, before the Gulls took the lead in the 76th minute.
Wayne Carlisle broke free on the left and squared the ball for Chris Hargreaves to score from 18 yards as his low shot was deflected past Chris Neal.
Graham Coughlan's header appeared to go in off the far post but referee Graham Scott waved play on but a minute later Dave Hibbert fired in from 12 yards to give the home side a deserved point.
