Southampton v Peterborough preview

Image: Barnard: Pushing for a start for Saints

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Southampton and Peterborough United at St Mary's Stadium.

Danny Butterfield and Oscar Gobern are pushing for places in the Southampton squad. Right-back Butterfield has recovered from a calf injury and winger Gobern is finally fit after a hip operation. Manager Nigel Adkins will definitely make at least one change to his squad after winger Jason Puncheon agreed a surprise loan switch to Millwall. Alex Chamberlain played 45 minutes for England's Under-18s in midweek and came through unscathed so he should keep his place in the starting line-up. But Adkins might be tempted to make changes elsewhere after the defeat at Carlisle last week as Saints look for a sixth straight home win. Lee Barnard could line up alongside Rickie Lambert in attack after starting on the bench at Brunton Park. Peterborough will be without striker Dave Hibbert, who dislocated his knee after coming off the bench during the 4-1 FA Cup replay win over Stockport on Tuesday night and is set for several months on the sidelines. Full-back Nana Ofori-Twumasi is out with a groin injury, while former Stockport winger Tommy Rowe is also sidelined with a groin strain. Midfielders Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale joined Gillingham on loan last week so are absent, but on-loan defensive duo Lewin Nyatanga and Marcus Williams return after they were ineligible to face the Hatters in midweek. Midfielder Lee Frecklington rounds out the absentees after he suffered ankle ligament damage.
