Swindon goalkeeper Phil Smith saved three penalties to clinch a 3-1 JPT shoot-out victory over AFC Wimbledon after a 1-1 draw.

The win for Town booked the Robins a place in the southern section semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Smith saved from Lee Minshull, Ricky Wellard and Chris Bush to clinch victory for Paolo Di Canio's side after the tie had finished 1-1 following 90 minutes. The Robins enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but there was little to trouble either goalkeeper aside from Alan Connell's header which was brilliantly kept out by Seb Brown. In the second half Matt Ritchie gave way for Etienne Esajas and the substitute soon tested Brown with a 20-yard shot before producing an even better strike which was punched away by the Dons stopper. But it was Oliver Risser who broke the deadlock with a goal quite out of keeping with the game when he thundered a shot from 25 yards into the top corner, giving Brown no chance. Esajas was again at the centre of things as his 30-yard effort rebounded off the crossbar. But, against the run of play, Rashid Yussuff sent the game to penalties when he equalised from two yards out with eight minutes left on the clock.
