Spurs seek first win against in-form Latics

Tottenham go in search of their first Premier League win of the season against Wigan on Sunday. Spurs are currently languishing at the foot of the table after picking up just one point from their opening four games. They have already lost to Sunderland and Aston Villa at White Hart Lane and Juande Ramos' new-look side has struggled to find any sort of cohesion. Ramos has called for patience and is still confident that Tottenham can challenge for a place in the top four, but Wigan are likely to pose a stern test after an encouraging start to their campaign. Tottenham will at least head into the game on the back of a confidence-boosting 2-1 victory over Wisla Krakow in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

Duo return

Ramos is likely to rotate his squad again to keep players fresh, but he will first have to assess whether everyone came through the Krakow game unscathed. Vedran Corluka and Roman Pavlyuchenko were both cup-tied for the clash with the Poles and should return against Wigan. Luka Modric picked up a knee injury against Villa and could miss out once again, while Alan Hutton remains sidelined with a foot problem. Fraizer Campbell came off the substitute's bench against Krakow to make his Spurs debut but Darren Bent is likely to start alongside Pavlyuchenko up front. Michael Dawson may return in defence if Ledley King is rested, while Tom Huddlestone is pressing for a place in central midfield.
Cattermole banned
Steve Bruce's Latics have collected four points so far and are unbeaten in three games in all competitions. They were held to a 1-1 draw against Sunderland last weekend, having previously scored nine goals in just two games against Notts County and Hull. Amr Zaki has been Wigan's most lethal weapon this term and the Egyptian striker will be looking to keep up his stunning form as he continues to partner Emile Heskey in attack. Lee Cattermole serves a suspension after being sent off against the Black Cats so Bruce must shuffle his pack in midfield. Michael Brown could be handed a start but Paul Scharner is another option after the Austrian returned from injury as a substitute last week. Jason Koumas also came on last week after undergoing intensive treatment on an ankle injury and will be hoping for a place in the starting XI.
