Rovers and Cherries share spoils

Image: Goodison: Went close for Rovers

Defence dominated in a dogged affair at Prenton Park as Tranmere and Bournemouth contested a 0-0 draw.

The first chance fell to Rovers after 14 minutes but Jose Baxter fired wide following good work by Adam McGurk. Baxter missed the target again 10 minutes later and then saw a cross deflected on to the top of the crossbar off of Stephane Zubar just before the half-hour mark. Wesley Thomas had a low shot blocked and Marc Pugh blazed over in a first-half which saw neither goalkeeper tested. Scott Malone went close for Bournemouth and Ian Goodison did likewise for Tranmere in a lively start to the second half, but real opportunities remained at a premium. Visiting goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan saved at the second attempt from the hard working Lucas Akins after 70 minutes and three minutes later he did well to hold a Baxter effort at the near post. Tranmere were lucky in the 88th minute when Stephen Purches headed off the line from Ash Taylor.
