Rovers out to bring Pool back down to earth

Tranmere welcome table-topping Hartlepool to Prenton Park for their second League One fixture. Rovers slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Swindon on the opening day and will be seeking a better showing in front of their own supporters. Hartlepool, though, flew out of the blocks, crushing recently-relegated Colchester 4-2 at Victoria Park.

      Goodison back

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore is boosted by the return of key defender Ian Goodison for Saturday's encounter. The Jamaican centre-back is available after suspension to bolster a Rovers backline which has shipped five goals in two games. However, Tranmere could again be without goalkeeper Danny Coyne, who has missed the last two games with a calf injury. Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg is on stand-by to deputise for the third successive game as Rovers seek to kick-start their campaign. Winger Chris Shuker is hoping to feature after injury but midfielder Gareth Edds may remain sidelined due to a hamstring strain. Moore said: "We've got to pick ourselves up before we play Hartlepool because if we keep creating chances they will go in."
      Duo in contention
Andy Monkhouse and Ritchie Jones should be fit to return to the Hartlepool squad for the trip to Prenton Park. Monkhouse suffered a thigh injury in the opening-day win against Colchester, while fellow midfielder Jones, who scored in that game, hurt his ribs. Both players were rested for the midweek Carling Cup clash with Scunthorpe and should be back in contention. David Foley and Alan Power replaced the duo and impressed in the 3-0 win against the Iron and they will be on stand-by to come in if needed. Ben Clark is the only definite absentee with an ankle injury, while Willie Boland is expected to return to the centre of midfield.
