Tranmere v Sheffield Wed preview

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Tranmere and Sheffield Wednesday at Prenton Park.

Rovers boss Les Parry has a full squad to choose from for the home fixture. On-loan Everton forward Jose Baxter served the final game of his three-match ban in the FA Cup defeat to Cheltenham last week and is back in contention to start. Centre-half Mark McChrystal was an unused sub in that match after two months sidelined with a foot injury and is looking to return to first-team action. Joss Labadie and Martin Devaney were both on target for Rovers' reserves in midweek and both are pushing for selection as they continue their comebacks from injury. Enoch Showumni also returned in that match and manager Parry has admitted first-team changes are likely following a run of four games without a win. Sheffield Wednesday skipper Rob Jones and loanees Stephen Bywater and Ben Marshall will return to the squad for the clash on the Wirral. Jones missed last week's FA Cup win at Morecambe after having minor surgery on his broken nose, with Reda Johnson stepping in at centre-half alongside Danny Batth. Manager Gary Megson may be tempted to recall his captain and switch the in-form Johnson to left-back at the expense of Julian Bennett. Goalkeeper Bywater and winger Marshall, on loan from Derby and Stoke respectively, were not given permission to appear at Morecambe but could also return to the starting line-up. Richard O'Donnell stood in for Bywater and Jermaine Johnson returned in place of Marshall last weekend, so Megson has plenty to think about. Midfielder Liam Palmer is also likely to return to the squad after missing out last week while on international duty for Scotland Under-21s. Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Nicky Weaver has returned to full training ahead of schedule after being sidelined for two and a half months with a knee injury.
