An injury time penalty from Sam Parkin rescued a point for Walsall as they drew 2-2 with Southend at Roots Hall. The result puts Walsall 6th after two games played while Southend sit in 13th place having been very close to 3 points before referee awarded the home side a penalty after Parkin was brought down by Lee Sawyer. Parkin picked himself up to slam in the penalty to the delight of the home crowd. The home side were in front after just 11 minutes when Steve Jones found the net with a header before two Shrimpers goals in 15 minutes turned the game on its head. Lee Barnard equalised on 66 minutes with a low drive before Dougie Freedman headed the away side into the lead on 80 minutes. The penalty decision was tough on the away side as they looked to have done enough to earn all three points but it was not to be however as Parkin levelled for Walsall.
