Chairboy's looking down and out

Walsall added to Wycombe's relegation fears with a 2-1 win at the Banks's Stadium. It was the Saddlers' first double of the season, only their second win in nine games, and before the match started some fans paraded a banner demanding "Hutch Out", referring to manager Chris Hutchings. Walsall looked safe after building a two-goal lead through Manny Smith and Julian Gray in the first 22 minutes, but in the second half the Chairboys fought back bravely, were the better side, and were unlucky not to salvage a point. Defender Smith opened the scoring for Walsall after seven minutes with a powerful header from Gray's corner. Then in the 22nd minute Gray scored with a superb curler after good work by Darren Byfield and Alex Nicholls. Gareth Ainsworth should have pulled one back for Wycombe before half-time, but his shot deflected off home keeper Rene Gilmartin. But the visitors were back in the hunt after 78 minutes when skipper Adam Hinshelwood tapped in at the near post. Five minutes from time Gilmartin denied the Chairboys a point with a stunning save from Lewis Montrose.
