Goalkeeper Jack Turner proved AFC Wimbledon's saviour as they recovered from blowing a late lead to beat Stevenage 4-3 on penalties.

Rashid Yussuff thought he'd won the game for the Dons on 58 minutes after Sam Hatton's penalty had cancelled out Lawrie Wilson's fortunate opener, only for Mark Roberts to level at 2-2 spectacularly at the death in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second-round clash. But after Boro's Darius Charles and Dons' Yussuff had missed from the spot, Lee Minshull made no mistake and 19-year-old Turner denied Wilson to claim victory. The Dons fell behind in the seventh minute when Brett Johnson's clearance struck Wilson and rebounded into the bottom corner with Turner stranded. AFC Wimbledon were level nine minutes after the re-start when Boro substitute Charles brought down Ryan Jackson in the box and former Stevenage midfielder Hatton slotted home the penalty. The turnaround was complete four minutes later when Jack Midson fed Yussuff in the box and the 22-year-old fired past Julian from six yards out. However, Roberts smashed home John Mousinho's cross in the 90th minute to force penalties. Hatton, Ricky Wellard, Chris Bush, and Minshull all scored for the Dons and Mousinho, Craig Reid, and Josh Walker netted for Boro before Turner saved from Wilson.
