Wolfsburg moved into fifth place in the Bundesliga on Saturday night thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in a one-sided northern Germany derby. Maximilian Arnold put the hosts on their way to victory in the eighth minute, but they had to wait until late on to confirm their superiority with further goals from Ivica Olic and Ivan Perisic wrapping up victory for Dieter Hecking's men. Bremen hardly managed to test Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio as they remained in 12th place, three points behind the Wolves. Arnold scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Augsburg a week ago and he appears to have got a taste for it as he put Wolfsburg in front after eight minutes. He met Olic's backheeled pass full on at the near post, leaving Sebastian Mielitz no chance from 10 yards out. Olic could have made it two in the 16th minute when he was put through on goal, but he seemed to rush his shot with still 10 yards to go before reaching the edge of the penalty area and Mielitz made a save with his leg. The danger was not over as Perisic picked the ball up, but he did the opposite to Olic and delayed his shot too much with Mielitz again making the save. Perisic missed the Wolves' next chance on the half-hour mark when he turned Diego's cross wide from close range while Diego had a shot of his own blocked on the stroke of half time. Wolfsburg continued to attack in the second half, but had to wait until the 72nd minute before doubling their lead. Perisic set the ball in from the right and Olic bravely headed the ball in from six yards out, low to the ground and a defender's boot. Perisic then got in on the act himself with two minutes to go, finding the far corner with an accurate finish to seal a comfortable victory at the VW-Arena.
