Serge Gnabry scored twice as Werder Bremen climbed out of the relegation play-off spot with a 2-1 Bundesliga victory at fellow strugglers Wolfsburg on Friday.
The Germany international, who joined Bremen from Arsenal last summer, opened the scoring with a deflected strike from inside the penalty area after 10 minutes.
He then grabbed his second goal eight minutes later, controlling a flick-on from a free-kick on his chest six yards out and volleying the ball home.
Borja Mayoral reduced the deficit back to a single goal a minute later when he bundled the ball in from close range with his chest following a corner.
Wolfsburg should have rescued at least a point as both Daniel Didavi and Mayoral saw efforts hit a post, while visiting goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald made a string of saves.
Bremen move up to 15th in the table, with Wolfsburg one place above them on goal difference.
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are in action on Saturday when they host Hamburg, while second-placed RB Leipzig are at home to Cologne.
