Lewis brace eases Wycombe home

Stuart Lewis scored his first two goals for Wycombe as they beat Burton 4-1 to move back up to second place in League Two.

The Chairboys made light of the boggy conditions in Tuesday night's Adams Park encounter as they claimed their first win in five games to arrest a recent slump that had seen them slide to fourth. Wycombe went ahead after 10 minutes when Adam Bolder's pass was intercepted by midfielder Lewis who went through the middle and finished well beyond Albion goalkeeper Adam Legzdins. The hosts then had a huge stroke of fortune when Lewis Montrose's shot took a huge deflection off Darren Moore and looped in. But the Brewers could do nothing about Lewis' second as his low shot from 30 yards rocketed past Legzdins and into the bottom corner. The visitors pulled a goal back 11 minutes into the second half when Aaron Webster flicked on John McGrath's corner and Sam Winnall finished from close range. Yet Wycombe restored their three-goal cushion when Scott Rendell coolly converted a penalty after Moore had bundled over Jon-Paul Pittman.
