Rory McIlroy overcame a six-shot deficit and atrocious weather to surge into contention for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am title.

McIlroy made a blistering start to his third round with four birdies on the front nine, before gains at the 15th, 16th and par-five 18th left him seven under for the day and -15 for the week.

Shane Lowry (-15) matched McIlroy's 65 on Saturday, with an eagle at the second setting the tone as he made his way up the leaderboard, with the pair one off the lead held by Sepp Straka.

"I felt like the weather switched on six for us," said McIlroy. "I said to Harry (Diamond) literally let's just try and chip the ball around today. I feel like I didn't really make a full swing after that.

"It got really squally on seven, eight, nine, 10 for us so to play those holes on even par was huge. Then it started to settle and was a little more sheltered on that back nine.

"It was nice to pick up a few birdies on the way in."
