Jon Rahm looks back at his opening-round 67 in Mexico and reveals the financial pledge he has made this week.

Jon Rahm has made a financial pledge to the people of Mexico and is playing for an extra-special cause at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

The opening World Golf Championship event of the year takes place at Chapultepec Golf Club in Mexico City, an area hit by a number of devastating earthquakes in recent months.

Rahm is supporting the relief effort by donating to the Mexican Red Cross, with $1,000 to be pledged for every birdie the Spaniard makes this week and $3,000 for every eagle.

"I feel like as a Hispanic and a Latino, I want to help out this community," Rahm said. "Let's hope I make a lot of (birdies and eagles) and I can donate as much money as possible."

An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico City in September, with the area hit by another powerful earthquake in February.
