As the 2016 golfing calendar edges to a conclusion, we look back at some of the standout tournaments from the past 12 months.

Jordan Spieth appeared on course to claim a third major victory at the Masters, only to squander a five-shot lead along the back nine and give Danny Willett an unlikely Green Jacket.

Spieth followed back-to-back bogeys from the 10th with two shots in the water and a quadruple bogey at the 12th, as Willett carded a bogey-free 67 to claim a three-shot win.

Rory McIlroy ended the week tied-10th at Augusta, before claiming his first success of 2016 a few weeks later with a big finish on home soil at the Irish Open.

The Northern Irishman trailed Russell Knox with three holes to play, but posted a two-putt birdie at the 16th before firing a stunning final-hole eagle.

Victory at the K Club was the first of three wins for McIlroy in 2016, with his most recent coming via a play-off at the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship.

A hole-out eagle at the 16th was followed by a birdie at the last to join Kevin Chappell and Ryan Moore in a three-man play-off, which McIlroy won at the fourth extra hole to also claim the $10million bonus jackpot.

McIlroy wasn't in serious contention at The Open, where Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson produced one of the greatest head-to-head shootouts in golfing memory.

The pair exchanged birdies throughout the final round to pull clear of the chasing pack, with Stenson sinking a major joint low-record 63 to finish three strokes clear of Mickelson's blemish-free  65 at Royal Troon.
