Jorge Campillo grabbed the No 1 seeding at the Belgian Knockout, topping the leaderboard after the first two rounds in Antwerp.
Campillo posted a second successive 67 to move a shot clear of James Heath at Rinkven International Golf Club, with Soren Kjeldsen and Thomas Detry part of the group two off the pace.
The top 64 players qualified for the weekend's nine-hole knockout stroke play contest, with the leading 16 players seeded and able to progress if their first-round contest on Saturday ends in a tie.
"I wish it was a medal play tournament in the position I'm in right now but it is what it is," Campillo said. "Obviously it's better being on the top than on the bottom and you still have to win tomorrow."
Beginning the day in a seven-way tie for the lead, Campillo recovered from an opening-hole bogey to reach the turn in 34 and add three birdies in a four-hole stretch along his second nine.
Heath matched the Spaniard's 67 to move into second spot, with Detry and Kjeldsen joined on six under by Victor Perez, Jeff Winther and Dimitros Papadatos.
All 16 seeded players have the advantage in the opening knockout round on Saturday morning, where they will progress if their first-round contest ends in a tie.
Three birdies in a four-hole stretch saw tournament helped Thomas Pieters qualify for the weekend, while an 11-man play-off decided the final eight players making it through to the weekend.
Jordan Zunic and Ryan Fox were both eliminated at the first extra hole, with Callum Shinkwin the final player to be knocked out after a double-bogey in fading light at the third extra hole.
