Jordan Spieth will go into the final day of the weather-hit Singapore Open just three shots off the lead despite an uncharacteristically poor display on the greens.

Spieth had 12 holes of his second round to complete after severe thunderstorms disrupted Friday's play, and he stumbled to a one-under 70 after missing a series of putts from around six feet.

The world No 1 was again short of his best when he got his third round underway, although he stayed in contention with the leaders and was one under for the round when darkness halted play with Spieth on the 17th.

The Masters and US Open champion faces a testing six-footer for par when he returns early on Sunday morning, and is likely to spend extra time working on his putting before play resumes.

After completing his four-birdie, three-bogey second round, Spieth said: "I made all my putts inside six feet on Friday but missed five or six today. I've just got to get comfortable on the shorter length putts."

Spieth did get a putt to drop for birdie at the fourth in his third round, but he found sand off the tee at the next and his miss-hit second cannoned off the lip of the bunker and led to a bogey.

He got the shot back at the long seventh and rolled in a 10-foot putt for another birdie at the 12th, but took another step backwards at the 15th when his short putt for par lipped out.

Spieth also missed an excellent chance for birdie at the next to remain on six under for the tournament, with Younghan Song holding the outright lead on nine under with five holes of his third round to finish.

"This has happened before, it is not unusual," said Spieth. "You have delays where you have to come out and be prepared to play a lot of golf the next day and you hope that that day you are on rhythm."

Song, who is level par for the round after failing to build on early birdies at the third and fourth, is one shot ahead of clubhouse leader Liang Wen-chong, who signed for a flawless second-round 67 earlier in the day.

The Chinese star, who played 31 holes on Saturday, birdied three of the first four holes and picked up further shots at 16 and 18, tapping in for a second consecutive four-under 67 just moments after the siren sounded to suspend play for the day.

But Byeong-hun An, last season's European Tour Rookie of the Year, plummeted down the leaderboard following a dreadful run in his third round at Sentosa.

The BMW PGA champion was tied for third at the halfway stage after rounds of 67 and 68, but he double-bogeyed the fourth and then dropped three shots in a row after a birdie at the fifth.

The 22-year-old Korean was unable to stop the rot after the turn, carding another three bogeys in four holes to slip to seven over par for the round with three holes remaining.
