Venue in North Carolina to stage men's and women's 2014 major

The No. 2 course at North Carolina's Pinehurst Resort and Country Club has been selected to host the men's and women's US Opens in 2014. New Zealand's Michael Campbell edged out Tiger Woods by two strokes to win the men's title the last time the course hosted the US Open - in 2005. And the 2014 men's edition has now be confirmed to stage the event from June 12-15, with the women's championship staged a week later. Barbara Douglas, chairman of the USGA women's committee, said: "The ability to provide women golfers with the opportunity to compete in a championship setting on the same course, under similar conditions, as their male counterparts is certainly unique to the USGA." The 2009 edition will be staged at Bethpage Black in New York, meanwhile, and gets underway on Thursday.
