Britain’s Geraint Thomas sealed his second overall victory at Bayern Rundfahrt in Germany as Ireland’s Sam Bennett sprinted to victory on stage five.

Team Sky rider Thomas took a 19-second lead into the final day and finished safely in the peloton to repeat his 2011 triumph.

Bennett, 23, outsprinted Yauheni Hutarovich and Raymond Kreder in Nuremberg to take the third win of his debut season as a professional.

Switzerland's Matthias Frank consolidated second place overall, while Vasil Kiryienka made it two Team Sky riders on the podium by finishing third overall, 35 seconds down on his team-mate.

Thomas told teamsky.com afterwards: “This win has definitely boosted my confidence heading into a busy summer.

"I have got the [Criterium du] Dauphine coming up next and then hopefully the Tour de France. It was nice to get this result, but now I’m already focusing on helping Chris [Froome], and I’m really looking forward to that.”
