Tour of Beijing axed by International Cycling Union from 2015 WorldTour calendar

The Tour of Beijing will be held for the final time next month after the International Cycling Union withdrew its backing of the event.
The WorldTour race, first staged in 2011, is organised by Global Cycling Promotion, an arm of the UCI, but the world governing body has decided not to extend its four-year contract with GCP, which expires this year.
The news was confirmed when the UCI released the 2015 WorldTour calendar on Tuesday following a meeting of the Professional Cycling Council in Ponferrada, Spain, where the UCI Road World Championships are currently taking place.
President Brian Cookson said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organisers of the Tour of Beijing as we head towards the fourth and final edition of that race and the role it has played in helping to build the profile of road racing in Asia.”
The 2015 UCI WorldTour calendar will follow an almost identical pattern to the 2014 campaign, with all races taking place on corresponding dates to this year.
