Lizzie Armitstead is upbeat over her chances of victory in the women's Tour of Britain which gets under way on Wednesday.
Armitstead is one of the favourites to win the second running of the race - with last year’s winner Marianne Vos is missing through injury - but the Commonwealth road race champion insists her rival’s absence is not necessarily a good thing.
“I will miss her, she’s an aggressive rider and that’s the kind of rider I like to ride alongside,” Armitstead told Sky Sports News HQ ahead of the 70-mile opening stage between Bury St Edmunds and Aldeburgh.
“It would have been nice to have a duel with her,” added Armitstead, who played down here favourites tag for the five-day race.
“That’s been said that I’m the favourite coming into this but it’s a difficult race to win. There’s a lot of bunch finishes, which are hectic and kind of dangerous, you need a lot of luck to win those.
“I hope I will be able to pull of a result but I’m not 100% sure of it.”
