Phillips Idowu: Understood to be suffering from a trapped nerve

Sky Sources understand that triple jumper Phillips Idowu has a trapped nerve behind his left knee and failed to disclose the injury to Team GB medical team.

Idowu's fitness has been under the spotlight recently after the British Olympic Association requested details on what was thought to be a hip problem.

But it is now understood that a trapped nerve is causing him problems and was the reason behind his withdrawal from the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace earlier in July.

The 2009 world champion was left disappointed when the BOA's request was made public, with his agent Jonathan Marks believing the matter should have remained confidential.

Idowu's triple jump campaign is set to get underway with the qualifying round on August 7, with the final scheduled for August 9.
