Vaughan ace ready to start off over hurdles

Tim Vaughan's promising novice Destroyer Deployed - who was second in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham - will return to action in the next few weeks. The five-year-old has not been seen since chasing home Cheltenian at Prestbury Park in March but a slight problem has delayed his hurdling debut. He has been back in training for a few months now, though, and Vaughan is excited about plotting a route back to the Festival. "He should be out the first week in January," said Vaughan. "Basically he knocked a joint in the summer so he didn't come back in until September time. "We'll start him off at a low grade to help him get his eye in and once we see he jumps well we'll step him up in grade, with any luck. "Depending on how he takes to hurdling it will either be the Neptune or the Albert Bartlett if he finds his form of last year. "He'll either run at Exeter or Bangor, at this stage I'd say the Bangor race on January 6 might be more suitable. "He'd won two bumpers before Cheltenham and he'd shown us at home he was a nice horse but he'd never shown much speed. "We knew we had him spot on for Cheltenham and he just kept galloping. Aidan Coleman got off him and said he'd be an Albert Bartlett-type of horse. "We'll take it one day at a time, he seems in great nick and hopefully he'll be out in the first week of January."
