Hughes, who successfully defended his domestic crown last week, will replace the suspended Joao Moreira in the star-studded tournament at Happy Valley, the Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced.
Moreira will be sidelined after picking up a three-meeting ban for careless riding aboard Turbo Jewellery in the Victoria Racing Club Trophy at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
Hong Kong's executive director of racing William A Nader said: "This is unfortunate news for Joao Moreira, but we are delighted to have a jockey of the highest quality to take his place.
"Richard Hughes has won the UK jockeys' championship for the past two years, riding more than 200 winners in 2013 to successfully defend his title. I know that Richard is excited to have the opportunity to take part in the Longines International Jockeys' Championship and we are equally excited to welcome him to the all-star lineup."
While Moore is a past winner of this competition, it will be the first time Hughes has taken part and the pair face some of the best jockeys in the world including legendary North American veterans Gary Stevens and Mike Smith.
Other riders to receive invitations are Christophe Soumillon, Maxime Guyon, Kerrin McEvoy, Douglas Whyte, Suguru Hamanaka and Mirco Demuro along with two Hong Kong-based jockeys yet to be decided.
