Thursday Tips

Trainer William Haggas

David Clough makes Anycity his best Thursday bet at Southwell and he has a tip for every race in the UK and Ireland.

Anycity can make the most of his fresh start and get back to winning ways in the Ladbrokes Bet £5 Get £20 Novice Auction Stakes at Southwell.

The two-year-old makes his Fibresand debut for a new stable after switching from Archie Watson to Michael Wigham.

There was much to like about the groundwork put in with his former trainer, for whom he signed off with an honourable second to a promising newcomer over a mile at Chelmsford in the last of three Polytrack runs.

Anycity appears happiest going from the front, no bad thing at Southwell.

The gelding made all to win at his first attempt at Chelmsford in August, before dropping to seven furlongs and finishing second at Kempton.

He and new partner PJ McDonald will surely be up with the pace again, and have every prospect of seeing it out successfully despite conceding weight to all but one here.

Half-an-hour later, Saaheq is another back to his winning distance in the Betway Sprint Handicap.

The four-year-old, yet to race on this surface, won twice in a week over five furlongs after joining Mick Appleby in September.

He followed up those Doncaster and Sandown successes with a close third in a valuable series final handicap at Nottingham over a furlong further.

This is another highly-competitive event, but Saaheq still looks progressive for a winter campaign.

At Chelmsford, Queen Of Burgundy can take care of a clutch of other likely lasses in the Bet totetrifecta At totesport.com EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.

William Haggas' filly did not enjoy the early stages of her debut over six furlongs at Kempton last month. But she finished with a flourish and can come into her own upped to a mile.

Wazin was sending out the right signals over a shorter trip last time too, and looks ready for the Bet totescoop6 At totesport.com Handicap.

She finished a promising fourth at Newcastle, on her first run for six months, and can get even more competitive this time.

Over jumps at Ludlow, Jillythejet may well make a winning rules debut in the opening Buy Your IJF Xmas Gifts Today Mares' "National Hunt" Maiden Hurdle.

Champion trainer Nicky Henderson often chooses to start some of his speedier recruits off at this sharp track.

He did so, for example, with future Champion Hurdle winner Punjabi 11 years ago - and many others before and since.

Winning Irish point-to-pointer Jillythejet is in a slightly different mould. But the four-year-old was quick enough to earn rave reviews for her victory in a two-finisher maiden at Ballyarthur in March, and duly moved on a month later for £100,000.

At the other end of the card, Third Estate has less lofty pretensions - but is still a likely winner of the Amateur Jockeys' Association Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle.

Neil King's gelding has gone off a well-backed favourite on each of his three runs this autumn, and has won once between two runner-up spots.

Third Estate was narrowly beaten in a Newton Abbot seller after a late-summer break, but then improved to easily defy 12st 1lb at Uttoxeter before going close again at Huntingdon.

He has gone up a further 5lb for that effort - but given a month's break, he looks primed for another big run.

Good ground is vital to Fox Appeal and given his mark has dropped due to running on soft towards the end of last season, he looks well treated in the Arthur & Peggy White Memorial Handicap Chase at Taunton.

Emma Lavelle has her string in good form and Fox Appeal only has a small field to beat.

He has not run off a mark this low for almost two years.
