Getaway Trump - big run expected

Anita Chambers makes Getaway Trump her best Saturday bet and has a tip for every race in the UK and Ireland.

Waiting Patiently can secure back-to-back victories in the Betfair Ascot Chase, the Grade One highlight of a bumper nine-race card in Berkshire.

Ruth Jefferson's charge repelled the challenge of the admirable Cue Card in this two-mile-five-furlong affair last year, claiming his breakthrough win at the highest level in fine style.

However, the eight-year-old did not run again last term after suffering a setback - and his long-awaited return in the King George hardly went to plan as he was taken out by Bristol De Mai before the race really began in earnest.

Plenty has to be taken on trust here - but given Waiting Patiently's only defeat over fences was that luckless run at Kempton, it is far too early to lose faith.

Paul Nicholls can be the main beneficiary of the re-scheduled races from last Saturday's Newbury card, with Getaway Trump and Clan Des Obeaux taken to notch a big-race double for the Ditcheat team.

Getaway Trump's class can triumph over experience in the Betfair Hurdle - a race in which novices have enjoyed success, with Kalashnikov proving a notable victor from that division only last year.

Latest Racing Stories

Getaway Trump certainly brings some decent form to the table, having found only the well-touted Champ too good in the Grade One Challow Hurdle at Newbury last time out.

A clear-cut winner of his two previous starts, Getaway Trump was really up against it that day because he was officially 12lb inferior to Champ - so to be beaten just two and a half lengths is a laudable effort.

The handicapper has put him up 4lb for that effort, but a mark of 142 still looks workable.

Clan Des Obeaux can set the seal on his Cheltenham Gold Cup preparations in the Betfair Denman Chase.

He caused a minor surprise when winning the King George at Christmas, and that form puts him head and shoulders above his rivals here.

Impulsive Star broke his maiden over fences in fine style last month and can keep up the good work in the William Hill Grand National Trial Handicap Chase at Haydock.

Neil Mulholland's charge was winless in five chase outings - although that bare statistic hardly did him justice because he had run some excellent races in defeat, most notably when fourth in the National Hunt Chase at last year's Festival.

He finally stepped up to the mark in the Classic Chase at Warwick, taking advantage of bottom weight to come home a cosy winner and mark himself as a stayer firmly on the up.

Kateson's form ties in with Getwaway Trump, and he is the pick in the Albert Bartlett Prestige Novices' Hurdle - while Shades Of Midnight gets the vote in the William Hill Rendlesham Hurdle, having chased home Paisley Park earlier in the season.

The Betway Kingwell Hurdle is the highlight at Wincanton, and Vision Des Flos looks the form choice after chasing home Buveur D'Air at Sandown earlier this month.

Grey Britain has been in rare form of late and shoots for a third win on the bounce in the 32Red Conditions Stakes at Kempton.

Triumphant over a mile and a half in December, he showed two miles is also well within his compass when holding off the reopposing Watersmeet in a similar event to this at Lingfield at the beginning of this month.

Champion Hurdle hope Verdana Blue was due to line up in this event - but with the new regulations surrounding flu vaccinations ruling her out, John Best's runner can take full advantage.

Chop Chop made great strides from her first to second outings, and she can take another leap by winning the Ladbrokes Home Of The Odds Boost Novice Stakes at Lingfield.

Well beaten on her first attempt, she showed much more promise when finishing third by the well-regarded Global Spectrum, who is on course for a big day in Qatar later this month.

The step up to a mile can bring about the necessary improvement for victory.
