Megan Carberry, who is attached to the Malton stable of trainer, Brian Ellison, has effectively won the 2014 Go Racing In Yorkshire Apprentice Series – with one Round to go - after accumulating a total of 59 points following the penultimate race in the Series at Catterick.

Megan has won a couple of races in this special series for young riders, which is held on the Flat courses in Yorkshire (Memory Cloth at Doncaster in March and Ever Fortune the following month at Pontefract) – the only rider to win two races in the competition.

The concluding race in the series takes place at Doncaster on Saturday, November 8 – the final day of the British Flat season of turf.

Megan will receive a sponsorship from Go Racing In Yorkshire worth £1,500 in cash plus £500 in equipment from White Rose Saddlery of Malton. She will also be able to take part in promotions with Go Racing in Yorkshire in 2015, helping to maintain her profile at what is a critical time in the careers of most young jockeys, while the public will be able to follow her exploits via a blog on the Go Racing in Yorkshire website.

Reflecting on her success, Megan said “It’s great to win this series, as it’s something I’ve focussed on from the beginning of the season. I got off to a flying start and have managed to stay at the top of the table.

“I’d like to thank all of the owners and trainer who have supported and encouraged me, in particular Brian Ellison and I’m looking forward to riding in the last race at Doncaster next month and helping promote racing in Yorkshire in 2015”

Go Racing In Yorkshire chairman John Sexton commented: “Many congratulations to Megan on winning the Go Racing In Yorkshire Future Stars series. It is terrific to see a young jockey making their way in the sport and there’s no doubt in my mind that Megan will be a star for years to come.
