Persuasive (L) came out on top in Wednesday's final race at Royal Ascot

Frankie Dettori completed a Royal Ascot double when Persuasive battled on well to land the Sandringham Handicap.

The well-backed 11/4 favourite, trained by John Gosden, made it four wins from four career outings with an authoritative display in the mile handicap.

Dettori managed to get down to 8st 9lbs to ride the daugher of Dark Angel, and his battle with the scales proved to be a worthwhile one.

Diamond Fields (33/1) ran on strongly in the final furlong to snatch second, a length-and-a-quarter adrift of the winner, with Sharaakah (25/1) third and Radiantly (20/1) in fourth.

Dettori had earlier been in the saddle on Lady Aurelia, runaway winner of the Queen Mary Stakes for American trainer Wesley Ward.

Dettori said: "She is improving and it was always the plan to come here, and although she is by Dark Angel I felt she coped with the ground, but didn't love it.

"On good ground I would have waited a bit longer and used her explosive turn of foot. On this ground I had to ride a different race - you can't wait too long because it takes them a long time to pick up.

"She's now won three in a row and while she only carried 8st 9lb today she is improving. She can try something bigger now."

Gosden added: "She's a lovely filly. We were hopeful, and I did feel if I had a banker for the week - if there is such a thing - this filly was it.

"I'll have to tick the jockey off as he's hit the front too soon, but he's riding very well, our boy. He had to do his minimum weight for this.

"We've got black type at Royal Ascot so we'll just see where we go with her.

"There's a nice Group race in Deauville and there's nice Group race at Newmarket to think about. She could go a long way on the ladder."
