Peacock: Made no mistake as the evens favourite

Peacock booked his ticket to Royal Ascot, along with franking the form of ante-post Investec Derby favourite Golden Horn, after clinching victory in the Fairway Stakes at Newmarket.

Having finished second behind John Gosden's runner in the Feilden Stakes earlier this month, the Richard Hannon-trained colt stamped his authority over his rivals stepping up to a mile and a quarter in the Listed contest.

Sitting handy, the Paco Boy three-year-old, who is owned by the Queen, was sent into the lead just outside the furlong marker before seeing off a host of challengers to score by a length and a quarter.

Her Majesty's racing manager John Warren said: "It was great and he did it nicely. On form, I hoped he might win.

"Last time he was here Richard (Hughes) said he got a bit unbalanced in the dip. He will go for the Tercentenary Stakes, as that is the plan we had talked about with the trainer.

"Richard said that he is just so tough and that he can't get to the bottom of him, he is a real gritty horse like his father.

"He has had good form all the way through his career. He is now just coming of age and that has set him up for Ascot."
