In depth

Verdict

The combination of Gordon Elliott and Ruby Walsh looks formidable and they team up with Orchard Road again after the nine-year-old’s close fourth at Navan where he was staying on at the finish. Mick The Boyo was having his 17th start when getting off the mark at Cork but was well supported and came home in good style so another big run is anticipated. HURRICANE DARWIN is only lightly raced and could prove much better than a 120-rated handicapper. He easily landed a maiden hurdle at Thurles in February and would have made a successful chasing debut there the following month but for falling. He gained compensation at Down Royal and, though chasing will be his game and he has an absence to overcome, looks potentially useful. Go It Alone completed a double in testing conditions in the spring but he's another who can make progress though a 14lb rise tempers enthusiasm. Magna Cartor won twice in October before heading for Cheltenham where he was in the process of running a big race before almost falling at the last. He probably would have finished in front of Runyon Rattler that day but Wither Hills reverts to hurdling on a 14lb lower mark after finishing runner-up over fences at Wexford.
