In depth

Verdict

A bigger field than usual for the feature event but most will be fighting it out for place money if dual Group 1 winner PALACE PIER runs up to his best. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t having returned to action with an impressive eight-length victory in a Group 2 at Sandown last month when Bless Him and Happy Power filled the places. Lope Y Fernandez came up short at the highest level last year but the Ballydoyle colt won a Listed race over a mile on his reappearance and there may be more to come from him over today’s trip while Safe Voyage had the measure of Century Dream in a Group 2 contest in Ireland last term and is also preferred to Lord Glitters, who landed the Jebel Hatta at Meydan in March. My Oberon took a step forward when winning a Group 3 at Newmarket on last month’s return and is preferred to Top Rank and Lord Campari of the remainder.
