Verdict

Plenty of dour stayers in this and conditions will demand stamina in abundance. Regal Flow bucked a trend when winning as an 11-year-old 12 months ago as younger chasers have held sway in recent years and Bob Buckler’s charge is back for more only 2lb higher, though has been badly out of sorts. Milansbar, later fifth in the Aintree National, and reserve Ballymalin filled the places last year but Get On The Yager was last of the nine finishers. Ballymalin’s yard also have Arthur's Gift in the line-up and the Carlisle winner appeals as the type who could step up a level over a trip like this. The top two in the handicap - American and Ms Parfois – are both previous course winners with the latter doing marginally best in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in December, though neither has raced since. There are three Irish raiders with Shark Hanlon’s Kilkishen making most appeal while Chef D'Oeuvre beat Back To The Thatch over an extended 3m3f at Haydock in December. Potters Corner still had every chance when coming to grief in the Eider and could figure with a clear round and Dawson City has won the last two runnings of the Devon National. BALLYDINE has been second twice in Grade 2 company. Charlie Longsdon’s nine-year-old enters unknown territory over this trip but has won over 3m on soft going at Sandown and was placed over 3m2f at Newbury two runs ago – he could be the one to beat if he lasts home.
