In depth

Not many three-year-olds run in this and none have won for the past ten years but MONTIRIDGE can put matters right. Richard Hannon's colt won a maiden and a novices' event before finding trouble-in-running when tackling Group 3 company at Newmarket so this should prove within his compass on his return to action. Don't Call Me won a tough handicap at Ascot in September and has been a regular at this sort of grade ever since. He looks certain to be thereabouts while Fury won a Listed handicap at York a year ago and wasn't disgraced in higher class subsequently. None of the remaining trio can be dismissed though the 2011 Superlative Stakes winner Red Duke hasn't progressed as expected.

Don't Call Me (IRE) 12-1 (9-0) Dwelt in rear, pushed along 3f out, kept on, not trouble leaders, 6th of 8, 7l behind Fencing (9-0) at Ascot 1m Listed Stakes (4yo+) (1) gd.

Fury 25-1 (9-10) Raced near side, held up towards rear, ridden inside final 2f, not much room on rail and switched right approaching final furlong, kept on inside final furlong, never a threat, 10th of 33, 8l behind Bronze Angel (8-8) at Newmarket 1m 1f hcp (2) gd in Sep.

Guest of Honour (IRE) 16-1 (9-0) In touch in mid-division, smooth headway over 2f out, chased leaders over 1f out, went 2nd and every chance 1f out, one pace inside final furlong, just held on for 2nd, 2nd of 25, 1l behind Haaf A Sixpence (8-3) at Newbury 1m hcp 0-105 (2) gs in Apr.

Monsieur Chevalier (IRE) 25-1 (9-0) Tracked leaders, effort and every chance over 2f out, one pace final furlong, 4th of 8, 4 1/2l behind Fencing (9-0) at Ascot 1m Listed Stakes (4yo+) (1) gd.

Red Duke (USA) 14-1 (9-0) Held up in last pair, pushed along and beaten over 2f out, never a factor, last of 7, 16l behind Trumpet Major (9-0) at Sandown 1m Grp 2 (1) gd in Apr.

Montiridge (IRE) 5-2fav (9-0) Held up, headway when slightly hampered over 2f out, joined leaders going well over 1f out, ridden to lead narrowly inside final furlong, headed final strides, 2nd of 11, 3/4l behind Trading Leather (9-0) at Newmarket 1m 2yo Grp 3 (1) gs in Oct.
