GHIZAO, who won the bumper on this card 12 months ago, finally lived up to his billing and recorded a very impressive success. Paul Nicholls' gelding comprehensively reversed the form of his seasonal reappearance with Kilmurry who was beaten at the top of the hill. Paul Nicholls reported that Ghizao had needed the run last month (his first since a breathing operation) and that he was better suited by the softer ground; a comment that was echoed by Timmy Murphy. The lead was shared by Loosen My Load, Kilmurry and Ghizao in the opening stages before Timmy Murphy pushed his mount into the lead as they went out into the country. He was joined by Loosen My Load at the top of the hill and ran down towards three from home; Ghizao went on before the second last, was good at the final two flights and was pushed out for a very impressive success to land a race that Paul Nicholls has won with Tataniano and Azertyuiop whilst Best Mate is also on the roster; the Arkle is firmly on the agenda. Loosen My Load jumped well in the main and may have found that the ground was softer than ideal which is also the case with Captain Chris who jumped eyecatchingly well on his chase debut and Philip Hobbs' charge certainly looks capable of fulfilling the high hopes that are held for him. Kilmurry's connections also had concerns about the underfoot conditions but he was beaten a long way from home and it could be that something was amiss. Radium hadn't been all that fluent on his chase bow at Ascot and again made several mistakes which didn't help his cause but connections may not have the same lofty ambitions for their gelding as his four rivals and it would be no surprise to see his sights lowered.
