A sparkling start to the meeting and the race everyone wanted as CANFORD CLIFFS got the better of Goldikova after a thrilling tussle inside the final furlong. Richard Hughes anchored the eventual winner at the back as the French mare's pacemaker Flash Dance took the field along at a decent clip from Cape Blanco. Hughes started to edge closer with half a mile to run as he tracked Goldikova through and the big two made their challenge for glory three furlongs out on the outside of the pack. The pair were right in position two out where Goldikova had a narrow advantage and it took a further furlong for Canford Cliffs to draw alongside before he began to assert with half a furlong to run and edged a length clear to win a shade cosily. Goldikova's jockey Olivier Peslier put up a pound overweight on the runner-up but it ultimately did not have a great bearing on the result as she was beaten by a better horse on the day - although going down with all guns blazing. Cityscape ran a cracker in third place. He had got a little stirred up in the preliminaries and as he exited the parade ring but came with a strong challenge under Ryan Moore down the outside. For a moment looked a big threat to the front two before his run flattened out inside the distance. Rio De La Plata travelled well until coming under pressure two out and was soon left behind while this level looked a bit hot for Ransom Note. Cape Blanco stays further than a mile and his tactics were to apparently try and run the finish out of the big two. The distress signals were out early from his prominent position and he was well beaten. Flash Dance dropped out once her job was done.
