Halifax have signed back-row forward Jacob Fairbank until the end of the season following his release from Huddersfield Giants.

The 25-year-old made just 17 appearances for the Giants after joining them in 2011 and subsequently spent spells on loan at Bradford Bulls, London Broncos, Wakefield Wildcats and Halifax.

Fairbank was not offered a new contract by the Giants for the 2016 Super League season and has opted to re-join his hometown club on a permanent basis, much to the delight of Halifax coach Richard Marshall.

"Jacob’s a great lad to have on board. He covers a number of positions and he works well with the lads. His loan period in February showed me his ability, so I was eager to push the paperwork through and get him signed,” he told the club’s official website.

"I really think it will be an easy transition. Jacob knows the players, he understands how we work as a club and as a team. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing him kicking on and developing the team further."
