Will Greenwood has told The Offload podcast that Eddie Jones' remarks about Wales and Ireland should be taken in context and not cost him his job.

Footage emerged of Jones, during a talk last July, referring to Ireland as the "scummy Irish" and Wales as a "little s*** place".

The video was uploaded to YouTube in July last year but has only come to light before Saturday's final round of the 2018 Six Nations when England will face Ireland at Twickenham.

Jones has apologised for the comments and will not face any disciplinary procedures from the RFU, despite the likes of former Wales international Lee Jarvis demanding that he is sacked.

However, Will Greenwood says to fire Jones over this would be a joke. "There is no chance his job is under risk - what for this? There are far worse things that could have been said - Eddie losing the next five games is risking his job," said Greenwood on The Offload.

"It's a poor choice of language straight away - can you contextualise it? Yes, I do believe you can. Is Eddie playing the edgy Australian? Yes, he is playing the Larrikin to the crowd at what he thinks is a private event, yes he is.

"I know he should not be using that kind of language but if you watch the video, he is playing the fool, he says that they turned them over in Dublin and that they will go a and get them,

Eddie Jones comments and Ireland's tilt at the Grand Slam

"Are you telling me that Eddie has a visceral hatred of all Irishmen and Welshman? That is complete nonsense.

"He has used a poor choice of language which he has apologised for and which has surfaced the week before [Ireland's trip to Twickenham].

"Do I genuinely think Joe Schmidt has this on the wall in the changing room? What a load of nonsense, he [Scmidt] is focusing on the accuracy and the detail of his three and four phase moves. He does not give a monkey's as to what Eddie said five months ago at a private corporate event."

Former Ireland back rower Alan Quinlan agrees with Greenwood and says that Ireland will not be bothered about his comments at all.

"I completely agree with Will - these corporate events are a bit of fun," said Quinlan.

"I think I will have to get off the circuit now because I sometimes slag the English off, so perhaps a video will come out about me.

"From an Irish point of view, I think it is of no consequence and Joe Schmidt won't pay any heed to that. These things happen and it is not a big deal here at all."
