Northampton tight-head Salesi Ma'afu has joined Toulon on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old will add depth to the front row after Italy's Martin Castrogiovanni's departure to Top 14 rivals Racing 92, and captain Carl Hayman's retirement.

Ma'afu played Super Rugby for the Brumbies and Western Force before moving to Northampton in 2013.

The Sydney-born prop, capped 14 times by Australia, won the Premiership title and the European Challenge Cup with Saints during his first season at Franklin's Gardens.

Ma'afu said: "Toulon is a great club that has won many titles and this is a huge challenge for me.

"The fact that there are several Australians already here, such as Matt Giteau, Drew Mitchell and Quade Cooper - helped me make my decision. It was part of it but not essential.

"They are great players and it will be an honour to play with them."

Elsewhere in the Top 14, newly-promoted Agen have signed South African centre Johann Sadie as they continue to build ahead of next season.

Sadie, 26, arrives from Super Rugby side Cheetahs and has signed a two-year deal.

He started his career with Western Province before spells with the Stormers, Bulls and then the Cheetahs.

The former Springboks Under-20 international is Agen's second signing from the southern hemisphere in the last two days after the arrival of New Zealand sevens international George Tilsley, also on a two-year deal.

Agen gained promotion after a 16-15 victory over Mont-de-Marsan in the Pro D2 play-off final on May 24.
