Pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale returned from injury with victory at the INSA Perch'formance in Lyon over the weekend.

The Sports Scholar has been sidelined since making her only outdoor appearance of the season at Gateshead in June as a result of Achilles and back problems.

She set about making up for lost time though with a comprehensive win in France as she cleared 4.61m to see off her nearest challenger, world junior record holder Angelica Bengtsson of Sweden, who could only manage 4.41m.

Having won gold at the European Indoor Championships early in 2013, it has been a frustrating few months for the Cardiff-based 22-year-old.

However, victory at the same venue in which she set the UK indoor record of 4.87m suggests that things are looking up once more for Bleasdale.

With the indoor season fast approaching and the European Championships and Commonwealth Games to come in the summer, both performance and result will provide a boost for the 2012 Olympian.

"I'm so unbelievably happy to be back healthy and doing the thing I love the most! Won't ever take it for granted!" tweeted a delighted Bleasdale.
