Robertson rallied after losing the opening frame to go 2-1 up with a break of 100, before clinching a lengthy fourth frame by potting the pink and black after missing two chances to win it.

The Australian returned from the interval with a 63 and, after Stevens cut the deficit to 4-2, and Robertson secured victory with breaks of 75 and 85, the latter having earlier missed a simple black off its spot.

Robertson will face 14-year-old home sensation Lu Haotian, who made the most of his walkover against the absent Ronnie O'Sullivan by upsetting world number 23 Dominic Dale.

Lu came from 3-1 down to level at 3-3 and twice more pegged Dale back after the Welshman had nudged a frame ahead.

Ricky Walden eventually put out world number one Mark Selby after a marathon of a match finally ended with a 6-3 win for Walden, who now goes on to face Ebdon.

Judd Trump looked at the top of his game as he beat India's Aditya Mehta 6-0 to set-up a meeting with Mark Allen, who won his grudge match with China's Cao Yupeng.

The Northern Irishman avenged his first-round defeat at this year's World Championship, after which he accused his opponent of dishonesty claiming Cao failed to declare an illegal push shot.

Allen was in no mood to be conciliatory after beating Cao, tweeting: "Never, I repeat NEVER have I wanted to win a match as bad as I did today!!! Job done. Now lets all move on!!"

Shaun Murphy held off a fightback from home favourite Ding Junhui to win 6-4, while China Open winner Peter Ebdon continued his impressive form in Asia with a straightforward 6-1 dismissal of Scotland's Steven Maguire.
