Rafael Nadal dispatched Pablo Cuevas in the Hamburg Open quarter-finals in straight sets.
The Spaniard, who entered the German tournament for the first time since 2008 in a bid to regain form and fitness prior to the US Open, comfortably edged past his outmatched Uruguayan opponent to win 6-3 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes.
Nadal had found Cuevas tricky to deal with in Rio de Janeiro earlier this year but swept past him in Hamburg by breaking three times in the opening set.
A further pair of break points in the second set handed the world No 10 a semi-final berth.
Nadal, the former world No 1 and top seed in Hamburg, will play Andreas Seppi in the final four on Saturday. Seppi was was given a walkover by Simone Bolelli.
