Olympic doubles champion suffering with knee injury

Victoria Azarenka was forced to abort her second round match against Tamira Paszek at the Roger's Cup in Montreal owing to a knee injury. The match had been suspended at 3-3 on Thursday due to rain but the Australian Open champion opted not to return to the court when the action was poised to resume. The 23-year-old, who won Olympic gold in the mixed doubles for Belarus last week, will now skip next week's Cincinnati event to focus on her preparations for the US Open. Already into the quarter-finals are Czech duo Petra Kvitova, who beat Marion Bartoli 6-1 6-1, and Lucie Safarova, who overcame fourth-seed Sam Stosur 7-6 7-6. Caroline Wozniacki won her second round match against Kiki Bertens of Holland 7-5 6-1. Maria Sharapova has also withdrawn from next week's Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati with the same stomach virus that ruled her out of appearing in Montreal.
